Note from Alex

Hello folks, just to say a huge thank you to all those who have donated to date, I'm still in the early days of this challenge, but feel it's time to step up the effort as far as both cycling and fundraising are concerned.

I'd be extremely grateful therefore if you'd help spread my cause to whoever you think might be willing to help me out, be it monetary, ideas for raising awareness (I've got posters ready to slap up and am thinking of running a wee story in the local press) or simply words of wisdom and encouragement - finding it a little tough already, 12,000km is further than I'd imagined!  As well as the convenient JustGiving method of donating, I'm also starting a rather more motivational sponsorship form (a carrot for the donkey).  You're equally welcome to add your name to this, just forward your name and how much you're willing to sponsor per km.  Stephen Clubb's suggested he'd offer a particularly 'cruel' carrot - an increased rate for anything above 10,000km - thank you Stephen, I like it!

I think riding a bike is tough.....I visited Dad today.  He was kept in Ninewells Hospital after going to collect his 4th round of chemo-therapy yesterday - his liver does not appear to be responding to the treatment and in short, he's incredibly weak and suffering.  We're hoping that steroidal treatment might kick-start things again over the weekend.  Further chemo-therapy is now delayed and surgery on the primary colorectal mass appears to be out of the question now.

Macmillan have provided a wheelchair which he hopes to get the chance to use on his return home - they rely on charitable donations to make a difference for people like Dad, which I feel an overwhelming urge to support.  Anything anyone is willing to help with would mean so much to me and my Family.

Thank you again,
Alex

New Stumpjumper Frame!

Hello all!

Specialized have replaced my frame with a shiny new one and Evans have confirmed that they are in the process of building the complete bike back up for its return - the Stumpy should be on its way home, fingers crossed, this week.

I'm sure I'll be quite tempted to keep it when I see that new carbon work of art, but my new frame's on order, I've already got the forks and a few other pieces for it and am committed to trying a whole other different style of bike/riding experience.

I know there were a few folk still insterested but can't remember exactly who, hence this blanket mail.  Anyway, let me know if you'd like to come and see my shiny black weave sometime and I'll give you a shout when it arrives.

I'm away Monday-Wed and Friday-Sat this week, but will try to check my mail and reply as quickly as I can.

Take care for now,

Alex

Kuota Kharma for Sale

Hi Folks,

Been thinking about my cycling habits and ambitions recently and decided that I need a new 'proper' (mountain) bike. Hence with a third mini-Doig due later this year, I feel it is only fair to purge my bike collection - after all who REALLY needs 4 bikes...? Please fined attached pics of my Kuota (54cm) Kharma.  18mths old (sleeps ALL night, unlike the mechanic in the pics), c/w 105 equipment and race blades, only ever been used for commuting, great frame for upgrading (if roadie racing in mind), otherwise a good solid, light, responsive ride.  £500 ono.

Later

MTB Rides

I'd like to sow the seeds for some memorable offroad rides in 2010 and churn up some keen interest from whoever fancies joining me up the hills - my Wife insists that I'm getting even more anti-social in my old age.

Any routes and/or events - small or epic, local or afar, day rides, night rides or bivvy weekends, drove road or techy trail that you'd like to tackle for the first time or indeed again - please let me know and I'll generate a tentative plan.
Once we get some folks out, we can hone it to whatever interest there is.

Please feel free to reply in the FORUM thread - MTB Rides - Part 2.

Looking forward to it.

Alex
